Former Rockstar Games developer Mike York has explained where in the development process Rockstar will be right now with GTA 6.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is by far and away the most anticipated game release of the year. It was supposed to have been out already, but Rockstar Games delayed its release date twice, and it’ll now drop come November 19.

All signs point to no further delays, seeing as the GTA developers have finally announced the price point and opened up pre-orders. Yet, fans are eagerly awaiting a third trailer and a look at extended gameplay footage, seeing as those things are the only things missing to this point.

Some insiders have claimed that the game is “content complete” at this point, and now former Rockstar dev Mike York has weighed in.

GTA devs are likely “polishing” a few big things

Speaking to Covers, York said that Rockstar is likely at the “80 to 90%” mark in development with just a few months to go.

“I would assume that they’re probably like 90% done on the game and they’re probably content complete, hopefully they are, I don’t know because I’m not over there,” he explained.

“A lot of times, you want to be content complete, meaning you’re not adding new animations, new features, new game mechanics, things like that. Hopefully, right now, they’re at the point where they’re testing everything like crazy, they’re playing the game like eight hours a day, even more, that’s what I’d think they’re doing.”

York also noted that the developers are likely “polishing” animations and other assets. “That would be my guess, that they’re 80 to 90% done at this stage,” he added.

As noted, Rockstar has gone back to being silent on all things GTA 6 after launching pre-orders. They’ve pushed a new heist for GTA Online in that time, and even locked the Diamond Casino for Australian players.

Developers in the Rockstar Games Workers Union have also requested no more ‘crunch’ periods too.
