A man in Hong Kong has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for repeatedly assaulting and raping his underage daughter over a decade, with a judge saying the defendant’s continuous financial contribution to his family will not mitigate his “chilling” acts.
Mr Justice Anthony Kwok Kai-on said on Monday the former dim sum chef, identified in court as KKW, did not show any signs of remorse during the trial despite having caused lifelong trauma to his daughter, now aged 23.
“It is hard to believe that a father could do this to a daughter. There is a saying that not even a wicked tiger will eat its offspring. The defendant’s acts were beyond beastly and utterly devoid of conscience,” Kwok said.
In July, a seven-men jury convicted KKW, 60, of two rape charges, three counts each of indecent assault and committing a grossly indecent act on a child under 16, and one offence each of incest and attempted incest in less than three hours of deliberation.
The court heard that the father attempted to have sex with his then nine-year-old daughter at their Aberdeen home in 2010, before he raped her twice between the same year and 2013, when she was aged 12.
The man had also committed multiple sexual assaults and grossly indecent acts in front of his daughter in 2010 and 2013.
