Fallout 3 & New Vegas remasters finally confirmed by Bethesda with Fallout 5 in development

Bethesda has confirmed that it’s working on remasters of classic RPGs Fallout 3 and New Vegas, alongside Fallout 5.

Following the success of the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime, fans have been desperate for more of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series. But with Fallout 5 seemingly a long way off, hopes have been high for remasters of older games in the series.

This was backed up by a number of leaks that suggested that development was underway, and rumors of a shadowdrop came and went. Meanwhile, the devs themselves had never officially announced anything.

Now, we finally have confirmation that we’ll be returning to both New Vegas and the Capital Wasteland in the future.

Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 remasters in the works

In a lengthy blog post, Bethesda shared news for a number of its biggest franchises, including Elder Scrolls and Starfield. But the part that caught everyone’s eye was the update on the Fallout series.

“Fallout is one of our biggest priorities today. Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination, and we have multiple Fallout projects in active development right now,” it reads.

“We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences. While we’re not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.”

Bethesda

Although there are currently no release dates for any of the three projects, it was confirmed that Bethesda is “planning something special” for the Fallout series’ 30th anniversary in 2027, although they didn’t go into details.

Bethesda also mentioned they were teaming up with original New Vegas devs, Obsidian, to work on another unannounced Fallout project.

This blog post also gave a brief update on the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6, although it didn’t give away too much that wasn’t already known.

“The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise,” the devs continued. “We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.”

Todd Howard recently confirmed that ES6 will return to the “classic” Skyrim style of RPG. On the other hand, little is known about Fallout 5, but Howard has hinted that the new game will be directly impacted by the TV show.
