Father and son, 10, stole over $7K worth of jewelry from Arizona arts center after kid signed visitor log

A sticky-fingered dad brought along his 10-year-old son to burglarize an Arizona arts center, where the kiddo allegedly snatched several pieces of jewelry worth over $7,000 — all after signing his name in the gallery’s visitor log.

Jean Zintz, 31, brought his son to the Mesa Arts Center in downtown Mesa last Wednesday and busted into the Mesa Contemporary Arts building — which had been closed to prepare for a new exhibit — at around 2 p.m., according to Mesa police.

The father broke open a locked door at the building and once inside, his son began snatching jewelry, including a $2,100 “Trouble” necklace, a $3,000 self-portrait bolo, and two “Rockstar” bracelets worth a combined $2,250 — adding up to $7,350 in total, according to court documents obtained by People.

Zintz also stole a Bluetooth speaker and a piece of a totem pole cactus from the city’s property, cops said.

In a head-scratching move before the crime spree, the 10-year-old reportedly signed his name in the gallery’s visitor log and even labeled an artwork he created in a neighboring studio, according to the court docs.

The sloppy criminals also left behind a stainless steel cup while robbing the arts center, police said.

The father-son duo returned the following day so Zintz could retrieve the cup — at which point, employees recognized the pair and called police.

Zintz and his son took off before cops arrived but investigators tracked them to Zintz’s parents’ home in Mesa, where they were staying while visiting from Washington State.

Police apprehended the pair during a traffic stop, discovering the stolen cactus cutting inside the vehicle, cops said.

Zintz allegedly admitted to the burglary and said he planned to take the stolen jewels back with them to Washington, where he had a flight to later that day, according to police.

A subsequent search of their luggage recovered the stolen jewelry and the clothing worn during the burglary, according to cops.

Zintz was arrested and booked on three counts each of burglary in the third degree and theft, as well as one count of criminal damage and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His bail is set at $40,000 cash-only.

The 10-year-old was booked into a juvenile facility on burglary charges, according to AZFamily.com.
