WASHINGTON, D.C. — With the Minnesota congresswoman still under scrutiny for alleged immigration violations, federal investigators informed Ilhan Omar that this all could have been legal if she had lived in Arkansas.
The embattled representative and Somali native has long faced allegations of impropriety over her citizenship, including her rumored marriage to her brother to circumvent the immigration process. Agents with the Department of Homeland Security reportedly told her that all of this legal drama could have been avoided if it happened in Arkansas instead of Minnesota.
"It happens all the time down there," said one DHS source who asked to remain anonymous. "If she had been pulling all of these shenanigans down in Arkansas — marrying her brother, passing it off as a legitimate marriage despite everyone knowing otherwise — we probably would have let it slide. We don't even bother looking into this type of thing down there anymore, since it's so prevalent. She just picked the wrong state to live in."
Arkansas resident confirmed that the whole thing wouldn't have been a big deal there. "We're used to it," said Little Rock native Jed Blanchard. "Shoot, I'm married to my sister, and the feds haven't ever shown up at my door to ask me any questions about it. That's just how we do stuff down here. If she gets to stay in the country after this scandal, she should think about moving to Arkansas."
At publishing time, Omar had reportedly told members of her family to look into starting a chain of Quality Learing Centers in Little Rock.
