Firefighters battle wildfire in eastern Spain's Castellón

Firefighters worked through the night to contain a wildfire in Tírig, in Spain's eastern Castellón province, combining direct attack with controlled burns to slow its advance.

Footage shows crews torching shrubland to create firebreaks as flames burn nearby. More than 300 personnel and 21 aircraft have been deployed to the blaze, which has burned 810 hectares since it broke out on Friday.

Crews made progress overnight, but authorities warned that thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon could bring strong gusts.

The fire comes as much of Europe endures an intense heatwave that has fuelled major wildfires and prolonged drought.
