The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall for more than 144,500 Ford Maverick pickup trucks because rear view cameras are malfunctioning.

On Thursday, the American motor company recalled 144,516 of its 2022-2024 Ford Maverick cars that have Connected Touch Radio (CTR) because the 'rearview camera may freeze when the vehicle is in reverse,' NHTSA reported.

The faulty camera can 'increase the risk of a crash' because it can give a 'false representation of where the vehicle is relative to its surroundings,' the report said.

The Ford Maverick is one of the best-selling cars on the market, according to Capital One Auto Navigator.

'The compact truck is offered with a fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain. It also seats five and can haul up to 1,500 pounds of payload in its rear bed, with a price starting around $25,500,' the outlet reported in June.

Owners of these vehicles have been instructed to take them to their nearest Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their CTR software updated.

The agency added that driver's will not be charged for this service. Recall letters are expected to be delivered by September 30.

Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and Ford's number for this recall is 24S59.

Ford also announced that 16,543 2022 F-150 vehicles have been recalled because the car's 'parking lights may flicker when the headlights are activated.'

Because of this, a driver might struggle with visibility on the road, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the report.

According to the NHTSA, the car's parking lights 'fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, ‘Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.'

To resolve the issue, F-150 owners have been told to go to a dealer to get their LED Driver module replaced, free of charge.

Notification letters are expected to be mailed out on October 7. In the meantime, owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and Ford's number for this recall is 24C30.

In May the company recalled nearly 243,000 Maverick small pickup trucks in the US because the tail lights were not illuminating.

A faulty computer module caused the tail lights to stay dark when the vehicles were  being driven.

This makes it harder for other motorists following behind to see the trucks - and that increases the risk of a crash.

The recall covered certain pickups from the 2022 through 2024 model years.

Ford previously said there were no reports of any crashes or injuries due to the problem. Headlights, turn signals and brake lights were still expected to work.

Documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website said dealers would update software to fix the problem at no cost to owners.

The report said the fault could 'cause reduced visibility to other drivers in dark conditions, increasing the risk of a collision.'

While the 242,669 Mavericks are from the 2022 to 2024 model years, they were manufactured between February 2021 and March of this year, according to the recall report.
