BUTTERWORTH - Police have arrested a foreign national for allegedly gouging out a man’s left eye during a fight that broke out in Penang on Nov 16.

Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested following the altercation in Ara Kuda, Butterworth, which occurred at around 2pm.

The victim, 52, was left with serious injuries.

“Based on initial investigations, the victim, a local man, had provoked the suspect before the suspect attacked him, injuring both of the victim’s eyes,” Datuk Hamzah said.

He added that the victim has been taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for further treatment and is reported to be in critical condition.

The police chief said the suspect has been remanded and is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
