Former Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry revealed her scars after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fall from the Miss Universe stage.

She posted never-before-seen images of the scars to her social media Oct. 5, just 10 months after a terrifying fall that changed her life. Henry described her healing journey and explained how dramatically different her daily routine has become.

She titled her post, “What recovery from a TBI has looked like for me,” and included a carousel of images that shed light on her long road to recovery.

Up-close images showed a raised scar at the bottom of her chin and one on her chest.

“It is difficult to describe what going through this injury has been like. It almost feels as though I’ve had an out-of-body experience and returned to a body that isn’t my own,” Henry wrote on Instagram.

“Recovery has been a difficult journey, filled with ups and downs, and lots of disappointment,” she shared.

Henry posted images of some of the healthy foods, carefully curated with specific ingredients to promote healing in her brain and body.

“Some scars may never heal, but I will continue to shine and seek joy in the challenging moments,” she wrote.

“Through clinic visits, physiotherapy and therapy sessions, I know I will come out stronger.”

Despite her positive attitude and her commitment to healing, Henry admitted that the last several months were challenging.

“I had to learn to be more intentional with my self-care and rest,” she said.

“With sleep ranging from 9 to 12 hours, and still feeling fatigued, imbalanced, and disoriented. Rest became so important.”

Henry previously issued a statement to People saying she had to relearn basic bodily functions during the healing process.

Henry filed a lawsuit against the Miss Universe organization Sept. 21, alleging that negligence and unsafe conditions had led to her traumatic fall from the competition stage at the pageant’s 74th competition.

Her previous statement included the admission that “Instead of rigorous physical preparation for pageant events, my new daily workout became breathing in as forcefully as I could with an incentive spirometer, a small handheld device that measures lung capacity.”

Henry explained the exercise was “to remind myself and my lungs of their true capacity before they collapsed on themselves and filled with fluid,” according to People.

“I celebrated when even one of the three balls elevated momentarily while I held my breath. It was as if I had just been born and was learning my basic bodily functions for the very first time.”

Henry accused the organization of negligence; premises liability; negligent hiring, retention and supervision; and both negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress. (RELATED: Miss Universe Contestant Dr. Gabrielle Henry Suffers Brain Bleed After Falling Off Stage)

She said she fell five feet through an “unmarked and uncovered opening in the stage,” which contained lighting equipment and concrete, and claimed that intense lighting impaired her visibility, causing her to fall off the stage, according to People.
