LaToya Malcolm, a former Miss Universe Jamaica finalist, has died. She was 35.
The organization announced her tragic death via Instagram on Saturday.
“We mourn the passing of MUJ alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition,” the post read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten.”
The Miss Universe Jamaica Instagram account did not share any further details. A cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Upon hearing the news, many of Malcolm’s fans took to the comments section to express their sadness.
“She was such a wonderful person. When I met and worked with her in 2024, she was a breath of fresh air,” one wrote.
“She was so full of light, always joyful. I’m still struggling to comprehend how this could even be possible. My condolences to her family and friends 🕊️,” another penned.
Malcolm competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant and later went on to hold the 2024 Miss Jamaica Bikini International title.
She was a Jamaican-based actor and entertainer with over a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, according to the Miss Universe Jamaica Instagram account.
In a 2024 interview with the Jamaica Observer about her Miss Jamaica Bikini International win, Malcolm told the outlet how she was able to dedicate her time and efforts to training for the competition, despite the death of her father earlier that year.
“My beloved father, Mr. Malcolm, this win was for you. Your one and only daughter continues to make you proud. I know you’re smiling down on me from heaven 🕊️💙,” she wrote in the caption of her post sharing the interview.
“I appreciate the continued love and support from my friends and family ❤️🙏🏽.”
