GTA 6 pre-orders may already be live, but a former Rockstar Games developer believes its November 19 release date still isn’t guaranteed.
Rockstar has already delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 twice, moving it from its original 2025 window to May 26, 2026, and then pushing it back another six months to November.
Although the studio has since opened pre-orders and confirmed its pricing, former GTA 5 animator Mike York says Rockstar could still postpone the game again if it isn’t satisfied with the finished product.
Another GTA 6 delay could push it into 2027
Speaking to Indy100 through Covers, York stressed that he no longer works for Rockstar and has no inside information about GTA 6’s current condition.
However, based on his experience working at the developer, York believes Rockstar would be willing to move the release date again, even if the deciding factor were a single important mission that still had bugs or didn’t meet its standards as November approached.
“They’ll push it six more months if they have to. I would not be shocked at all,” he said.
A six-month postponement could push GTA 6 into May 2027, although York was describing a hypothetical situation rather than predicting another delay.
His argument is that Rockstar has enough confidence in GTA 6’s enormous audience to take whatever additional development time it believes the game needs, even after pre-orders have begun.
York’s comments come shortly after he estimated that GTA 6 was between 80% and 90% complete in response to questions from Dexerto.
York previously predicted that GTA 6 would make its November date and warned that another delay could damage the game’s hype. His latest comments stop short of saying a delay is likely, but suggest Rockstar would still choose additional development time over releasing something it considers unfinished.
For now, GTA 6 remains officially scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
