French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has asked local municipalities to impose partial curfews following the ongoing civil unrest across the country.
Mr Lecornu confirmed local mayors will be given the power to introduce partial curfews in an effort to protect people and shops.
"The prefects will discuss this with the mayors and their local chambers of commerce and industry," he told a press conference today.
France would, he confirmed, declare a state of emergency if it is deemed necessary.
Mr Lecornu also revealed furlough measures will be open from Tuesday onwards for businesses impacted by the violent protests.
The French Prime Minister announced an operation comprising around 200 investigators is beginning in Paris today to analyse footage of the devastation caused over the weekend.
"The French people want to know how the disorder came about, how it all unfolded, and how this violence came about our country," Mr Lecornu said.
He also revealed that 80 per cent of those arrested during the rioting at the weekend now face criminal charges.
Mr Lecornu blamed the "ultra-left" for their part in the unrest, noting "criminal elements" behind the violence.
He also said it was a "miracle" no one was killed during the violent outbursts over the weekend.
"We can't allow people to teach you to riot. There are lots of people who demonstrated on Saturday, young people under 18," he declared.
"They might disagree with the government and we have to give them the framework to do that."
