Rioters have been slapped with curfews in several urban areas of France amid Benjamin Netanyahu's warning Hamas was now "on the streets" of Paris.

Earlier this evening, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu directed regional authorities to impose "partial curfews" in some major cities as the state attempts to wrestle the situation back under control.

Mr Lecornu's request comes after Interior Minister Laurent Nunez admitted earlier today French police had "lost control" of demonstrations in several areas of the country.

This evening, the Paris police prefecture confirmed a partial curfew will be in place around the Place de la République and the Les Halles district of the capital.

The movement restrictions will remain in place from 8pm local time until 6am on Tuesday morning.

The curfew prohibits protests from taking place in the neighbourhoods during that time.

Four cities in northern France - Lille, Douai, Wattignies and Denain - have also been slapped with curfew measures.

The Prime Minister has refused to rule out declaring a state of emergency if the unrest continues to spiral out of control.

Mayor of Paris Centre, Ariel Weil, told French broadcaster BFM TV he had asked the Government to deploy the army and impose a curfew "as early as yesterday".

The Socialist Party mayor said: "Once we're overwhelmed, we don't have the staff and I can understand that.

"We have to give ourselves the means to prevent looting."

In Coulaines, Mayor Christophe Rouillon issued a curfew targeting youths to protect the commune "from raids by thugs and destruction by rioters".

FRANCE IN FLAMES - READ THE LATEST:

The restrictions across the country come as the Israeli Prime Minister warned that France is "under threat" from Hamas terrorists on the ground amid the civil unrest.

Speaking to C14, Mr Netanyahu said Emmanuel Macron called him on the day of the October 7 attacks to urge him to pursue diplomacy.

The Israeli leader said: "I said, no, no, Emmanuel. It's not going to be solved by diplomacy. These are monsters. Hamas is like Isis.

"I said if we don't stop Hamas here, you'll see them on the streets of Paris and that's exactly what is happening right now."

Mr Netanyahu also said he believes the current situation will spark a shift in the "political makeup" of France, which could usher in a right-wing government to take control.

He said: "They understand that they're under threat. Again, it's the common enemy that creates common interests."

His remarks follow an intervention from Donald Trump, who recently endorsed Mr Netanyahu ahead of the Israeli elections.

On his Truth Social platform, the United States President warned that migrants have now "taken over" France.

"They must CLOSE THE BORDERS, FAST," he wrote.
