CV NEWS FEED // President Joe Biden promised during his presidential campaign to be moderate in his administration, but he never intended to, a political analyst wrote for The Free Press.
Ruy Teixeira wrote that though Biden attempted to paint himself as a middle-of-the-road candidate who would restore the “soul of America,” his decision to implement far-left policies throughout his term ultimately contributed to his unpopularity and loss in the 2024 election. According to Teixeira, the policies came from a desire to be a “transformational” president, rather than a moderate one like he promised.
The Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan, lack of attention to immigration crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border, and pushes to favor LGBT individuals, among other policies, all contradicted Biden’s original promise to deliver moderate laws, Teixeira added.
“In fact, one of the most notable traits of the Biden administration has been its lack of moderation,” Teixeira wrote.
By 2022, Biden was unpopular; by 2024, just before the debate between Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, a Gallup poll found that the majority of respondents (56%) thought Biden was “too liberal.” Only 12% said Trump was “too conservative.”
“One wonders how things would have turned out for Biden and his party if he had not taken his fateful turn to the progressive left and their priorities,” Teixeira continued. “Perhaps the Democrats — and the country — would be in much better shape.”
