Valve boss Gabe Newell has purchased a $71 million mansion in Florida, and it’s so ridiculous that it has its own tunnel.
For the most part, Gabe Newell stays out of the limelight. The Valve boss has made semi-regular appearances at Dota 2’s signature The International event, even introducing teams and revealing that he has his own voicelines in-game.
While fans might want more appearances from the 63-year-old – Counter-Strike fans are desperate for him to attend a Major – he confirmed that he still works seven days a week, and said he lives on a boat doing things that he enjoys the most.
When he’s not sailing the seas, Newell now has a new pad in Manalapan, Florida, after he confirmed a $71 million purchase of a super mansion.

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal, who reported that Newell purchased the waterfront home from Cindy and Ron McMackin, founders of the mechanical subcontracting company Pan-Pacific Mechanical.
The huge mansion has an eight-car garage, an outdoor pool, a dock, and a boat lift – things that Newell will probably get plenty of use from.
On top of that, it also has an underground tunnel that allows for private access from one part of the house to a connecting beach, and an elevator to get you between floors. Yep, it’s pretty nice.
While it is a pretty big spend, Newell, who is estimated to be worth around $11 billion, has made bigger purchases in the last few months.
Back in November, the Valve boss picked up a $500 million superyacht, which was kitted out with gaming rooms. He also spent $300 million for a deep-sea research vessel, which will be the flagship boat for his ocean exploration fleet.
That fleet is set to launch in 2028, with the flagship vessel having two-man submersibles for exploration up to 6000 feet below sea level.
