Gaetzgate -- How a strange nomination might play out

President-elect Donald Trump's surprise nomination of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz took the internet by storm Wednesday. The predominant thought from both sides of the political and ideological aisles was, "What the hell was Trump thinking?"

There are several possible explanations for the choice:

Donald Trump values loyalty above all other traits in those he would choose to help him govern. Matt Gaetz has been as loyal as anyone other than Trump's direct family. His dedication to reining in Merrick Garland’s DoJ lawfare and other extracurricular hijinks places him high on any list of loyalists. Despite Democrat ravings, this is the list that Trump will be working from during his second term, not any so-called enemy list. If Senate confirmation is successful for all his nominees, Gaetz will work out just fine in the new Trump administration.

However, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Donald Trump is playing a bit of cat and mouse with the Dems. If Gaetz's nomination goes through, it is an 'in your face' move directed towards both the Democrats and the RINOs of his party who are less than fans of the brash Florida congressman. Trump is certainly not above the gamesmanship this would entail, infuriating the opposition and those of his own party who are considered less than loyal. In fact, it would be vintage Trump. However, if the nomination fails, it could get very interesting.

Since Marco Rubio's nomination as Secretary of State is almost certain to be approved, Florida governor Ron DeSantis will select an individual to fill Rubio's seat.

Nah. FBIgate.

Gaetzgate is catchy, though.

Of the swamp creatures on both sides of the isle have a problem with him that tells me it’s an inspired choice.

Gaetz is a pit bull. The Swamp in general, the DOJ, and the Democrats know exactly what Trump was thinking...they just won’t admit it.

I’m so thrilled with this choice. Trump is doing great so far. No surprise.

Strengthen OIGs to go after DOJ employees. I wonder if Trump could do this independently.
DOJ needs to be razed to the ground.

The same Senators passed all Biden’s picks, including some with direct connections to Chinese Spies.

There were zero confirmation hurdles for Joe Biden, and they worked with Dems to pass all his Judges.

Any way you look at it, Trump’s nomination of Gaetz is brilliant.

Here’s one way (of many) to look at it. Gaetz is probably the least likely person to be confirmed. So the Senate RINO’s might say to themselves, “We’ll shoot down Gaetz. But we’ll let the rest of Trump’s nominees slip through.”

Gaetz draws all the fire. Trump gets everyone else he wants.

This is nth degree chess using transparent boards and pieces only beheld in Trump’s mind were he sees moves out to infinity and beyond.

Or it could be a middle finger to the DOJ and a way of tying into tangled mess for 4 years.

I bet Gaetz will be approved.
Trump is no dummy.
He got a wink and a nod from Graham and Thune before announcing the nomination. He is already cutting deals with the new leadership.
Trump will run the table....

Whatever Trump was thinking it was at least 3 steps ahead of everyone else.

The debt ceiling is suspended to 1 January. The suspension ends then, but the current Treasury secretary will have weeks of maneuvers available to keep the wheels turning.

But pretty much immediately, the new Congress will have to deal with it. Whatever they pass to do so has to be signed by Trump.

Who will inform them that his nominations must be confirmed as the first order of business and no other business will be pursued until they are. So he will veto any debt ceiling legislation until Gaetz et al are confirmed.

They will not have supermajorities to override the veto.

They are running again. Trump is not. Any shutdown will be on them.

This is leverage no one has talked about.

Massive constructive government change isn’t typically accomplished by go along to get along types.

I am still learning about Gaetz. He certainly has some strengths and I can see why PDJT is selecting him. (I still hear some questions out there about Gaetz’s dedication to equal rights, we will see...right now I just haven’t had time to research his record and public statements adequately to comment pro or con on this...so nothing negative here now.)

Yeah it’s gonna be really entertaining watching all this play out and these crusty old entrenched politicians get their little worlds turned upside down.

For some reason I suspect DJT has something special in store for that pizza chit romney.

Imagine there is a Conservative air raid...the Left is hunkered down in their bunkers, listening to the bombs rain down. Faint, then gradually getting louder...

Wham...Wham...wham...wham...

Wham...wham...

BAABOOOOOOM!!!!!

Wham...Wham...wham...wham...

Wham...wham...

That BAABOOOOM! was Gaetz's nomination.
