You can now get a video game delivered to your door in the time it takes to microwave dinner, because GameStop just joined Uber Eats.
The retailer that survived the mall era, the meme-stock frenzy, and the slow death of physical media has spent years hunting for its next act, and it found one in the same app you use for a 2am burrito: Uber Eats. The delivery company has been quietly stuffing its marketplace with everything from mascara to power drills, so a controller run to your couch was always going to arrive eventually.
What you can actually order from GameStop on Uber Eats
As reported by Business Wire, Uber and GameStop announced the partnership on July 15, and opened up GameStop locations nationwide for scheduled or on-demand delivery through the Uber Eats app.
You can order video games, gaming consoles, accessories, and collectibles, then choose a delivery window and track the whole thing in real time from a “Retail” or “Electronics” tab.
Hashim Amin, who heads up Grocery and Retail for Uber in North America, framed it around the panic purchase, and pointed out that shoppers increasingly expect gaming essentials “to be available on-demand,” whether they are replacing a controller before game night, grabbing a launch-day release, or scrambling for a last-minute gift.
He said: “Adding GameStop to Uber Eats strengthens our growing gaming and electronics selection, giving customers access to another trusted retailer they can shop with the speed and convenience they know from Uber.”
GameStop lands on the platform alongside a growing roster of retailers spanning grocery, beauty, home improvement, and pet supplies, as the delivery giant keeps insisting it is no longer just about dinner.
The deal fits a wider stampede toward instant delivery across the food and gaming worlds, from the moment Pokemon Go data quietly started guiding real delivery robots to the arrival of drone-flown pizza that reaches your yard in four minutes.
