"And I think going to church is a great way to do that. It's like pressing your nose against the window of the Christian life and taking a look to see what it's all about. What is it all about?
"Well, I think many people think being a Christian is a lifestyle choice, something to upgrade your life or get yourself a bit of comfort. A bit of spiritual escapism, perhaps, but essentially something for me. But when you start to listen to Jesus himself, that picture doesn't really hold up.
"He says things like, if anyone wants to be my disciple, they must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. He says, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. You see, he doesn't present himself as a comfortable add on to a person's life, but as the king of this universe, with all authority on authority.
"We have stepped out from under to set up our own kingdoms, and to be a Christian is to accept his offer of forgiveness for that, and then to step back under his authority and to live for his kingdom, not my own."
