"Now Paul at the time was in prison. He was under house arrest in Rome, so we might have expected him to write for this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Rome, and then added, help get me out of here. My life's being frustrated. Things aren't going according to plan. God must have better plans for me than this. So much I wanted to achieve. Yet these Romans have thrown me in prison. For this reason I pull the prisoner of Rome.
"But he doesn't write that. He says, I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus. Why? Because ultimately Paul knew who was in control. He knew who was pulling the strings. He knew the one who was seated on the throne and sovereign over the whole universe.
"And if that was true for Paul back then, it can be just as true for you and me today. After all, is the risen and ascended Jesus still in control today as he was in Paul's day? Is he still on the throne today, as he was for Paul?
"Is he still pulling the strings and sovereign over this whole universe that he created? The answer is yes. Which means you and I can trust what's going on today. Because ultimately we know who holds us and we know who holds our future."
