“When Jesus sends out the 12th, his instructions are striking. Take no gold, nor spare supplies or extra provisions. It seems counterintuitive to begin a mission without everything in place, yet this is exactly how they are sent.

“The workman is worthy of his meat. In other words, what is needed will be provided for. This is not about carelessness, but it's about trust. That provision can meet the purpose along the way.

“As Hudson Taylor once said, God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. Many recognise the temptation to wait until everything feels secure, until every detail is settled.

“But often, if everything had to be perfect in the first place, very little will ever get done. The mission of the 12th reminds us that faith sometimes means taking the first step before the whole path is visible.

“The teachings still resonate today, whether in service work or new beginnings. Look, there are moments when trust must come before certainty. It's stepping out.

“The provision and the support and the direction will be discovered over time. So let us pray. God of provision, give us courage to begin, trust to continue, guide our steps and provide us with what is needed for the journey ahead.”
