A Brazilian influencer has gone viral for the wrong reason after she claimed she had never seen so many unattractive people in Ilha do Mel, a small island in the southern state of Paraná.
The influencer, who is known as Giselle, traveled with her husband to celebrate New Year's Eve and had a moment to reflect on the lack of good-looking folks while she stood on a beach.
'We are delighted with Ilha do Mel. But, like, I've been here before and I had the same perception,' Giselle said as she began to record a video for her 72,000 followers on TikTok. 'I've never seen so many ugly people together.'
Giselle admitted that she did not possess striking features that would set her apart from others, but said that it was clear that neither were the people who flocked to Ilha do Mel.
'Seriously. I'm from Santa Catarina and the difference is clear. I'm far from being the most beautiful person in the world. But Santa Catarina beats me 10 to 0,' she claimed.
'There are a lot of ugly people. I had already noticed that last time,' she boasted as she recalled her previous visit to the island, which is a 30-minute boat ride from the city of Paranaguá.
'But this time it's a little more so. Encantadas has a more 'common' vibe. Over in Nova Brasília, in Farol, it's a little elitist. Let's see,' she said as she rattled off the names of some of the island's beaches.
Giselle also took time to bash the residents of Ilha do Mel, claiming they did not 'make a point of treating people well.'

Giselle was met with a wave of criticism and sought out the help of a local community leader.
She posted a second video in which she appeared to be remorseful and asked Ilha do Mel residents for their forgiveness.
'I'm not that kind of person. I had a few drinks, I'm not used to it,' she said.
'I never imagined that my words would have offended anyone. I didn't put myself in those people's shoes.'
The apology was not enough as Giselle eventually shut down her TikTok and Instagram accounts, which are listed as @gi.leo.lifeoutdoor, before fleeing the city.

Ilha do Mel residents slammed Giselle over her bitter remarks and her own looks.
'Here in Matinhos or on the state's coast, it's so beautiful. We are rich in nature, and we have the priority of saying that our coast is becoming beautiful thanks to the state government, and we will not let these tourists defame our coast,' one person wrote.
'Next time, @gi.leo.lifeoutdoor, think twice before you come and say bad things.'
'I work with beauty and that's something you don't have,' another social media user commented. 'Go take that silicone out of your mouth and fix that hair. Nobody says hi to stuck-up people like you.'
