A Welsh Green Party deputy leader has quit over its new policy, “Zionism is racism”.
Phillip Davies was a member of the Green Party for seven years and held the post of deputy leader of the Welsh party for two-and-a-half years.
He told his followers in a video on his social media that his decision was “accelerated” after the policy was passed at the party’s conference in Brighton earlier this month.
The decisive vote saw 1,022 members back the motion, with 813 voting against it.
It established that the Green Party is an anti-Zionist party, which does not believe in the right of the Jewish people to self-determination in their ancestral region of Israel.
A Green Party spokesperson said: “The Green Party is an anti-racist party and has consistently opposed the illegal occupation of both Palestinian and Syrian land, called for an end to arms sales to the Israeli government and spoken out fearlessly about the devastating situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
“Those positions remain central to our approach.
“So too does our deeply held commitment to equality, justice and human rights for all and opposition to racism in all its forms.”

Mr Davies said: “In the motion, it commits the Green Party to a single-state solution – that's completely against Green values.”
“The Green Party’s obviously always supported Palestinian rights. We’ve been clear about the fact that Israel’s committing a genocide on Palestinians.”
Criticising the policy, he added: “To me, it just seems to exist to make people feel better about themselves and that’s something that I personally don’t really want in my politics.”
He compared the policy to “British imperialism” after questioning the motive: “So why are we as people in Britain telling people in the Middle East what the future’s to be?”

Mr Davies stressed that resigning from his post was not a “snap decision”, as he felt as though he had been “banging my head against the wall” due to the Greens’ headquarters’ lack of support for the Welsh party.
As a result of this policy, Green Party leader Zack Polanski has since been banned from Israel.
Mr Polanski has also since liked a social media post telling people who are against the motion to “get over yourselves and move on”.
While membership had previously increased during his time as leader, according to a poll tracker by The Telegraph, the Greens have plummeted to an average of 9.8 per cent, now putting them behind the Liberal Democrats.
Green councillor Kieran Dams has also handed in his resignation in light of the dispute.
Mr Dams stated: “I think the party is heading into a dark place.”
GB News has approached the Green Party for comment.
