Rockstar Games employees have made demands to the Grand Theft Auto creators as they’re still seeking recognition as a union.
In October 2025, Rockstar Games fired more than 30 members of staff from their studios across the United Kingdom, Canada, and India. The GTA creators were accused of ‘union-busting’ by some employees, but stated that the firings came as a result of “gross misconduct” by the former employees.
Since then, Rockstar employees have sought recognition as a union, protesting outside Rockstar offices in Edinburgh and London, and even getting a response from the British parliament.
The Rockstar Game Workers Union has since provided an update on their attempt to seek recognition, revealing that they’ve had their first meeting with Rockstar and laid out some requests.

“We believe that we can be a studio with: No crunch, pay transparency, flexible working, no AI, and a commitment to no layoffs,” they posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The desire for the end of a crunch period, which has affected many of Rockstar’s biggest titles, comes from wanting to mitigate overtime. “We’ll work on getting a stronger process to avoid any crunch,” the union added.
The union is also requesting the ability to work from home again, which had happened over the last few years. Rockstar brought an end to that back in early 2024, citing security concerns.
Additionally, the Rockstar Game Workers Union said that the meeting was a “step in the right direction,” and that they were able to “make the case that workers’ rights need to be heard.”
They are still seeking voluntary recognition from Rockstar, and have a roadmap for a “speedy negotiation process” on that front.
It remains to be seen if Rockstar will agree to their requests and just how quickly things unfold.
Strike action before GTA 6’s launch was previously mooted in a report from The Guardian about the union, as they say they’re in a “strong enough position” to “pursue formal recognition.”
