GTA 6 gameplay was finally revealed through the Extended Look, and you may have noticed that it looks a lot like Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s not just Rockstar’s signature style at play, as the game has borrowed several iconic features from the Red Dead Redemption franchise.
Comparing GTA 5 and Red Dead 2, the former is a lot more arcadey, while the latter focuses on immersion with deep, methodical gameplay systems. GTA 6 appears to be somewhere in the middle, combining Grand Theft Auto’s outright chaos with Red Dead’s more immersive style.
Thanks to the Extended Look and IGN’s previews, here are all the Red Dead Redemption 2 features spotted in Grand Theft Auto 6 so far.
All RDR2 features spotted in GTA 6
Chapters
While GTA 5’s story seamlessly took you from mission to mission, GTA 6 will use Red Dead Redemption 2-style chapters.
Honor System
Rockstar GamesGTA 6 introduces the Criminal Profile system, a new version of Red Dead 2’s Honor system. Instead of actions simply being deemed honorable or dishonorable, your behavior while committing crimes will affect your Criminal Profile.
“It’s when you go beyond what is necessary on a consistent basis, or you do completely unnecessary stuff consistently, that you may start to sway your Criminal Profile in a certain direction,” Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told IGN.
Everyday acts of goodness, such as putting garbage in a trash can or feeding stray animals, can also affect your profile.
Dead Eye meter
Rockstar GamesThe extended showcase showed Jason with a Dead Eye meter, which is depleted when slowing time during gunfights. Using Dead Eye also revealed lethal and non-lethal areas on the enemy, such as the head, heart, hands, and knees.
Disarming
Like the Red Dead Redemption games, you can shoot the weapon out of an enemy’s hand, or aim for the arm or leg to bring them down non-lethally.
Slow motion kill cams
Rockstar GamesWhen Jason and Lucia get a particularly stylish or important kill, the camera will zoom in and show the kill in slow motion, just like RDR2.
Fence
Stolen goods, such as jewelry and vehicles, must be sold to a Fence. Fences can also offer you tips, such as cars in police impound lots that are ready for the taking.
Safehouses (Camps)
Safehouses are said to behave a lot more like Red Dead Redemption 2’s Camps, “in terms of how interactive they are and how much they feel like your home,” said Nelson.
Pet animals
Rockstar GamesYou can pet or scold animals in GTA 6, which you couldn’t do in GTA 5, but could in Red Dead 2. It appears to affect your Criminal Profile.
Study animals
The IGN preview revealed that when in the wild or visiting the zoo, you can study animals, which will tick them off a checklist. It’s similar to RDR2’s system.
First-person inspecting
Instead of your phone popping up in the game’s HUD, IGN confirmed that GTA 6 uses Red Dead 2’s first-person inspection camera. When Jason and Lucia bring out their phone, the camera will zoom in on their hand holding it, much like Arthur bringing out a treasure map or his diary.
