Composing legend Hans Zimmer was the top individual winner at the 15th annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards ceremony held Wednesday night, with three wins. The film “Emilia Pérez” also picked up three wins, followed by “The Wild Robot” and “Deadpool & Wolverine” with two apiece.
The HMMAs gave out honors for songs and scores in 39 categories at the event, held at Hollywood’s Avalon. The list of winners for 2024 was an eclectic one that included such well-known names as Elton John, A.R. Rahman, Kris Bowers, Miley Cyrus, Diane Warren, Alberto Iglesias, Maren Morris, Zoe Saldana, Clément Ducol, Robin Carolan, Pinar Toprak, Lainey Wilson, Brandi Carlile, Ilan Eshkeri, Olivia Rodrigo, Camille and dozens more. Bernie Taupin was the most celebrated honoree of the night, being presented the Outstanding Career Achievement Award for a lifetime of work, on top of sharing in the award for best song from a documentary for “Never Too Late,” the closing theme from the new Elton John film of that name.
“Emilia Pérez” won its leading three awards in the categories of score for a feature film, which went to Clément Ducol & Camille; best music-themed film (biopic or musical); and onscreen performance of a song in a film, an honor earned by Zoe Saldana.
Zimmer’s leading three awards for an individual were for his work on “Dune: Part Two” (score for a scifi/fantasy film), the documentary TV series “Planet Earth III” (co-composed with Jacob Shea and Sara Barone) and the Barbra Streisand-sung song “Love Will Survive” from “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” (song for a TV show or limited series, shared with co-writers Kara Talve, Walter Afanasieff and Charlie Midnight).
The double wins for “The WIld Robot” came in the categories of score for an animated film, for Kris Bowers, and original song for an animated film, awarded to its singer/co-writer Maren Morris as well as Ali Tamposi, Michael Pollack, Delacey, Jordan Johnson and Stefan Johnson.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” won for both best soundtrack and best music supervision, the latter going to Dave Jordan.
Among the films picking up score honors were “The Room Next Door” (in the independent film division), “Nosferatu” (horror/thriller), “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” (documentary), “The Goat Life” (independent film, foreign language). The score for “Shogun” won in the TV division.=
