US Journalist Nelson Aspen has claimed that President Trump's efforts to securing peace between Ukraine and Russia will be part of his "legacy" as US President.

Speaking to GB News, Aspen highlighted Trump's recurring theme of positioning himself as a leader capable of averting global conflict.

Trump has consistently portrayed himself as the leader who can prevent World War Three, according to Aspen.

"The thing about President Trump's comments on World War three is those are words and themes that he has been throwing around since the campaign trail, and he likes to present himself as being the leader who will be able to avert a World War three. So it's a theme that he comes back to," Aspen told GB News.

Aspen noted that this self-portrayal as a peacemaker has been consistent throughout Trump's political career. America's involvement in Ukraine-Russia negotiations is crucial, Aspen emphasised.

"I think right now, in the case of Ukraine and Russia, America has to be involved in that process," he said.

While praising the British Prime Minister's virtual meeting with other leaders, Aspen stressed a key point about Putin's willingness to negotiate.

"I don't think Putin is going to come to the table unless President Trump is sitting at that table as well," he told GB News.

Aspen referenced Trump's recent meeting with the Nato Secretary General, noting: "Even the Secretary General was saying that he feels like the door is open to restoring relations with Russia."

Aspen observed that world leaders are showing unexpected respect for Trump.

"It is quite remarkable the way world leaders are paying respect to Donald Trump in ways that sort of surprised everyone and certainly irritate his American opponents," he said.

He added: "It is remarkable to see, and Trump is a guy who likes to win, there is nothing new about that."

The journalist highlighted Trump's well-known desire for victories: "From the very beginning of his adult life and early career, he's admittedly a man who likes winning, and he uses the phrase about winning in all of his rhetoric.

"And I think that plays right into the chess games of world peace as well."

The journalist suggested Trump's strategy relies on projecting strength rather than engaging in military conflict.

"And he would consider it a win, just like just like any other victory. Keeping peace, hopefully through strength and not military action, will be his legacy. That's what he's counting on, I believe", he concluded.
