A Peruvian mayoral candidate named Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores has won an election with more than 30 per cent of the vote.
Mr Flores, a candidate from the centre-left Ahora Nación (Now Nation) party, secured victory in the town of Queropalca.
The Queropalca District is one of seven districts of the province of Lauricocha in Peru, with a population of just 730 people.
Mr Flores received 229 votes, 34.5 per cent of the recorded 663 valid ballots.
His closest rival, Gaspar Benilde Osorio Zambrano of the Popular Renewal Peru party, took 204 votes, or 30.8 per cent of the vote.
Just 42 votes separated the top three candidates in Sunday’s ballot.
Mr Flores also manages the Simeon Sac investment group in Pillco Marca.
It is unclear when the politician joined the Ahora Nación party.
However, he was previously a member of the right-wing Popular Force party before resigning in 2025.

PERUVIAN ELECTORAL AUTHORITY
Mr Flores' official profile, published on the Peruvian electoral authorities’ website, does not explain the origin of his unusual name.
However, there has been other politicians with the name Hitler elected in Peru.
In 2018, Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez defeated Lennin Vladimir Rodriguez Valverde in their mayoral election in Yungar, a town in the Andes.
The contest was consequently dubbed "Hitler vs Lenin", given the similarity of Valverde’s name to the Soviet Union founder.
Namibian politician Adolf Hitler Uunona won his fifth consecutive local election
OSHANA REGIONAL COUNCIL
During the election campaign, Mr Sánchez told reporters he is "a good Hitler".
He said at the time: "Maybe it’s a coincidence that my name is Hitler.
"I really don’t have any objection to Hitler. It’s like any other name. For me, it’s as if my name was Juan, Lucas, or Sebastian."
He continued to serve out his full four-year term as the mayor before being replaced in the next election.
Peru is not the only nation to elect a candidate with the Hitler name.
In November 2025 , Namibian politician Adolf Hitler Uunona won his fifth consecutive local election.
However, he later announced that he had removed the Hitler name from his identity card and wanted to be called Adolf Uunona.
He said: "As a child, I saw it as a totally normal name. It wasn't until I was growing up that I realised this man wanted to subjugate the whole world. I have nothing to do with any of these things.”
