Cathay Pacific Airways’ budget carrier, HK Express, has reintroduced an offer for elderly Hongkongers to buy one-way airfares starting at HK$2 (25 US cents) for more than 20 destinations in Asia, but the tickets will not necessarily be the cheapest on the market.
HK Express said on Thursday that Hongkongers aged 65 or above could purchase the cut-price airfares, mirroring the HK$2 tickets these residents can access for public transport such as buses, MTR trains, ferries, trams and minibuses.
But the HK Express tickets only include one small personal item and one piece of cabin baggage for the passenger.
Those who wish to bring checked baggage must pay regular prices. Seat selection, however, costs just HK$2.
Travel companions aged below 65 are subject to regular ticket prices.
The HK$2 offer, which was also available this time last year, will cover the destinations of Beijing (the Daxing airport), Sanya, Ningbo, Penang, Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Hualien, Da Nang, Hanoi, Phu Quoc, Manila and Clark.
One-way airfares for Seoul, Shizuoka, Hiroshima, Sendai, Takamatsu, Nagoya, and Okinawa will cost HK$65.
