Hong Kong and Dubai regulators co-host climate finance event to drive sustainable transition. Key focus: Asia-Middle East collaboration.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) will co-host the third annual HKMA-DFSA Joint Climate Finance Conference on September 10, 2026, in Hong Kong. Themed “Driving Transition in a Changing World,” the event aims to strengthen climate finance collaboration between Asia and the Middle East, two critical regions for the global green transition.
This conference, supported by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) and Nasdaq Dubai, will convene corporate leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss financing solutions and innovations needed to address global climate challenges. It’s a key event within the broader Hong Kong Green Week 2026, a flagship sustainability initiative running from September 7-11.
Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA, emphasized the urgency of cross-regional collaboration. “As global uncertainty challenges green transition, leading sustainable finance hubs like Hong Kong and Dubai must align to drive capital towards real-world solutions,” Yue stated. Mark Steward, Chief Executive of the DFSA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the conference as a platform to enhance cross-border partnerships and sustainable finance development.
Why This Matters
Both Hong Kong and Dubai are positioning themselves as critical hubs for sustainable finance, leveraging their financial infrastructure and regulatory frameworks to attract transition capital. The conference builds on prior efforts, including a 2025 joint report by the HKMA and DFSA, which revealed a threefold increase in sustainable debt issuance in MENA and emerging APAC markets to $94 billion since 2020.
The timing is notable. Hong Kong’s broader green finance strategy, consolidated under the HKMA’s Sustainable Finance Action Agenda launched in October 2024, has already produced tangible results. For example, the HKMA facilitated the issuance of Hong Kong Government Green Bonds earlier this year. Dubai, through the DFSA, has been advancing its own sustainable finance initiatives via frameworks like the UAE Sustainable Finance Working Group.
What to Watch
Key themes at the conference will include emerging sectors in Hong Kong and Dubai, sustainable disclosure practices, and transition finance innovations. With the backing of HKEX and Nasdaq Dubai, discussions are expected to provide actionable insights for investors navigating the evolving dynamics of green capital markets.
Looking forward, the event could catalyze further cross-border investments and partnerships. For market participants, the focus will be on how these financial hubs can facilitate the flow of capital into projects that align with climate goals under uncertain global economic conditions.
