Hogwarts Legacy finally got the sequel confirmation that fans have spent three years waiting to hear.
The original spell-casting RPG shattered records in 2023, as it sold millions and left players hungry for more. Since then, rumors swirled for years while Warner Bros. stayed silent, and recent job listings only hinted at what was coming.
Our 2026 release calendar already tracked confirmed titles, but this one finally demanded its own spotlight now that the wait is over.
A Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in development
“Games remains an important growth lever as we work toward our long-term Studios segment goals,” the company wrote in its August shareholder letter.
“We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”
AVALANCHE SOFTWAREThe confirmation came with another revelation, too. Warner Bros. Discovery told shareholders that it will be trimming its game slate to four big franchises and fewer, stronger bets. Hogwarts Legacy had already proved this was the right move.
It became the highest-grossing game of 2023, minting money while players filled Reddit threads with complaints about the ethics of playing the game, missing Quidditch and the curious lack of consequences for flinging Unforgivable Curses at innocent bystanders.
The sequel now shoulders the weight of that success, plus the expectations of a fanbase that spent years dissecting job postings and parsing every whisper from Avalanche Software. What’s more, the publisher is counting on the win, as they admitted in their shareholder letter that their first half of 2026 releases “fell short of expectations” and made it clear that Games would now carry a heavier load for the Studios segment going forward.
