Donning a wedding suit and gown, To Sheung-hin and Chan Kit-fong are cheered on by family members at a banquet hall in Hong Kong as they renew the vows they first made 54 years ago.
The pair, who are both in their 70s, have the longest marriage among the 20 couples front and centre at a symbolic wedding ceremony helping lovebirds aged 60 and above to celebrate their enduring love.
“We didn’t manage to take any wedding pictures back then, and now [the organisers] can help us make up for this regret. I am very happy. It’s something I’ve been thinking about since we got married,” Chan, the wife, said.
Nearly 100 members of Volunteer Space came together to host the wedding in Tsim Sha Tsui on November 17, which is Hong Kong’s Senior Citizens Day.
Reminiscing about how they first met, To and Chan said the pair exchanged letters for a year before finally meeting in person.
To first connected with his future wife when he replied to a “seek a pal” newspaper advertisement placed by her friend. They were a popular way to meet new people at the time.
