A Hong Kong court has sentenced a former beautician to five months in prison for injecting fillers into a woman seven years ago and causing her to suffer side effects.
Kowloon City Court heard on Wednesday that Kun May possessed hyaluronic acid fillers at her now-closed beauty centre in Tsim Sha Tsui and performed injections on the woman’s forehead and between her eyebrows on March 26, 2017.
On the same night after the treatment, the woman noticed skin discolouration where she received injections, and felt pain, dizziness and headache.
She was then taken to hospital where she was diagnosed with skin necrosis, or death of skin tissues. Her forehand was left with a 4cm-by-4cm permanent scar.
The defendant, who moved from mainland China to Hong Kong 15 years ago, denied a count of performing medical treatment without registration resulting in personal injury to another.
In her defence, she said she never told the victim she was a doctor. She only agreed to perform the injections after a client, who was only identified as Ada, begged her to.
