The father of a Hong Kong dancer paralysed after he was hit by a massive LED screen at a concert by boy band Mirror two years ago has said he hopes justice will be served in a coming trial for his son “who has lost his years of youth and mobility”.
Reverend Derek Li Shing-lam, the father of 29-year-old Mo Li Kai-yin, said on Saturday that the start of the 18-day trial had been postponed to October 16 after some of those involved in the case pleaded not guilty.
“I hope that fairness and justice will be demonstrated in the judicial process, and that justice will be given to Mo who has lost his years of youth and mobility,” he said.
Police have charged three people from Engineering Impact – the principal contractor for the concert – with conspiracy to defraud in connection with the case.
Mo Li suffered severe spinal injuries after a four-by-four-metre (13-by-13-foot) screen suspended over the stage fell and struck him and fellow performer Chang Tsz-fung during a concert by the popular Cantopop band at the Hong Kong Coliseum in July 2022.
The incident left the dancer at risk of becoming a permanent quadriplegic, paralysed from the neck down.
