Hong Kong police have arrested 185 people in a three-day citywide crackdown on violent crime and triad-related activities.

The force said on Monday that the operation, coordinated by the organised crime and triad bureau, started last Thursday with the aim of combating triad gangs and cutting off their income.

During the operation, code-named “Flowingshade”, officers conducted searches at entertainment venues, including mahjong parlours, nightclubs and game centres, and raided illegal businesses such as gambling dens, according to police.

Officers arrested 185 people for various offences, including drug trafficking, money laundering, criminal intimidation, operating a gambling establishment, wounding and criminal damages between last Thursday and Saturday.

Police said the suspects included 11 visitors from mainland China, 51 non-Chinese residents, and eight people who entered the city unlawfully.
