Hong Kong police were called to disperse angry and disappointed railway fans after a carnival celebrating the 45th anniversary of the MTR Corporation closed admissions and implemented crowd control measures amid high foot traffic.

The railway giant said admissions to the “Chill Fun Trainival” at Central Harbourfront were closed at around 7.45pm on Friday, saying it had reached capacity and would no longer allow entry.

“Due to the large number of guests on-site, admission for September 27 has been closed to ensure the experience of our participants,” the operator said.

The measures prompted frustration among those who had been waiting in queues.
