Hong Kong’s Greater Bay Airlines will roll out direct services to two mainland Chinese destinations Zhangjiajie and Guilin next month, following a setback early this year when more than 100 flights were cancelled.
The carrier said on Wednesday that direct flights to the two cities would be available from April 15. The service between Hong Kong and Zhangjiajie will run three times a week alongside twice-weekly flights to Guilin, bringing its mainland destinations to five including Zhoushan, Huangshan and Yichang.
Zhangjiajie is in the northwestern part of Hunan province, boasting natural landscapes of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which was inscribed in the list of World Heritage sites by Unesco in 1992.
The city is also home to the 430-metre-long (1,411-foot) Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge – the world’s longest and highest of its kind – over the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyons, providing a thrilling sightseeing experience to visitors.
Guilin, located in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, is renowned for its spectacular natural scenery, often described as “peerless in the world”.
Its most popular attractions include Li River, Elephant Trunk Hill, Sun and Moon Pagodas, Seven Star Scenic Area, Jingjiang Palace, Yangshuo Park and Big Banyan Tree. Guilin was among the first batch of National Famous Historical and Cultural Cities designated by the State Council back in 1982.
