Hong Kong’s Towngas is conducting emergency repairs after a burst water pipe damaged an underground gas line in North Point, affecting neighbourhood residents and disrupting traffic.

All lanes between Kam Hong Street and Shu Kuk Street on eastern Hong Kong Island’s Tsat Tsz Mui Road remained closed to traffic as of 11am on Monday, hours after the burst water triggered flooding in the area at around 5.30am.

Citybus bus routes 82 and 85 were diverted due to the incident, and the Transport Department has asked motorists to use alternative routes amid the busy traffic.

Towngas said on Monday that the rupture had damaged an underground gas pipeline.

“Towngas is currently carrying out emergency repairs, and the gas supply to individual users may be affected,” the gas provider said.

The area’s freshwater supply resumed at 9.16am.
