A renowned scientist has been approved as the next head of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Post has learned.
The university’s governing council endorsed molecular geneticist Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming on Friday, the sole candidate for the role, paving the way for him to succeed Professor Rocky Tuan Sung-chi as president and vice-chancellor from January.
A council member Lau Kwok-fan confirmed that all council members had voted for Lo.
Lo, who has worked for the university for 27 years, is a pioneer of non-invasive prenatal testing. He is the director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at CUHK, and the associate research dean at the university’s medical faculty.
An insider earlier told the Post that Lo, 60, would be offered a five-year term with a pay package similar to the outgoing president.
