Hongkongers can have nine days off work in a row over the Lunar New Year period if they take leave in between public holidays, while tour operators have said that snowy destinations are popular choices among travellers during the season.
But travel agencies also said the proximity of the Lunar New Year holiday to Christmas could affect the desire for customers to travel, with one operator predicting less business as a result.
According to an official list, Hong Kong has 17 public holidays in 2025.
In the coming Lunar New Year, Hongkongers can get an extra-long break if they apply for leave on January 25, 27, 28 and February 1. These dates will combine with the existing three-day public holiday on January 29, 30 and 31 to allow residents to take a total of nine days off.
Residents can also look ahead to the Easter holiday in April for another chance to have an extended break.
By taking leave on April 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17, residents will be able to get a total of 10 days off by combining these dates with the public holidays for Good Friday, the day after Good Friday and Easter Monday.
