A collision involving two cars in a Suffolk village claimed the lives of two teenagers on Sunday morning.

The crash occurred on Debenham Road in Little Stonham shortly after 10am when a red Peugeot 107 and a silver Volkswagen Passat collided.

The male passenger travelling in the Peugeot, who was in his late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His fellow occupant, a woman also in her late teens who had been driving the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Those travelling in the Passat suffered minor injuries.

Emergency services including police, ambulance, air ambulance and fire crews attended the incident following a call from the East of England ambulance service.

The road where the collision took place remains shut to traffic, but authorities expect to reopen it later this evening.

Suffolk Police have issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Investigators are particularly keen to obtain recordings from motorists who were travelling through the area and may have captured relevant footage on their dashboard cameras.

In a statement, the force said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and would like to hear from motorists driving in the area who may have dash cam footage prior to the incident."

Anyone who can assist the investigation has been urged to get in touch with the joint Norfolk and Suffolk serious collision investigation unit.
