The United States House of Representatives passed a second war powers resolution Thursday, directing President Donald Trump to “remove hostilities from Iran.”
In a 214-208 vote, the resolution introduced by Democrat Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal passed the House. Four Republicans joined every Democrat in passing the resolution: Michigan Rep. Tom Barrett, Ohio Rep. Warren Davidson, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, and Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick. Both the House and Senate passed war powers resolutions in June.
These resolutions are largely symbolic and have rarely been used before, according to Politico.
Trump posted to TruthSocial Thursday morning, briefly preceeding the vote, saying “the U.S. will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a Surrogate and/or Proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis, themselves, who I am very disappointed with in that they have, until now, acted very professionally and smart.”
The Daily Caller reported that the total American death toll had reached 18 casualties as of Wednesday. In total, 450 U.S. troops have been wounded in Operation Epic Fury, Reuters reported.
