House passes spending bill to avert government shutdown

• Last-minute deal: The House has passed a stopgap funding bill just hours before a midnight deadline to avert a federal government shutdown. It now heads to the Senate for approval.

• What’s in the deal: The latest plan would extend government funding into March and includes disaster relief and farming provisions, but does not include a suspension of the debt limit, which President-elect Donald Trump has been demanding that Republicans address.

The House voted 366 to 34 to approve the measure. More Democrats than Republicans supported the stopgap bill, which required a two-thirds majority. All the "No" votes came from GOP holdouts. The bill appeared on a glide path to Senate approval late Friday night.
