On paper it was the perfect meet cute - boy meets girl, boy instantly falls for girl, boy and girl start spending all their time together.
The only problem is, boy identifies as gay.
Despite this, Jacob Hoff knew from the moment he laid eyes on Samantha Greenstone she was someone special - he just didn't know those feelings would take him all the way to marriage.
The couple, who are both actors, met during an audition for Fiddler on the Roof in 2015, and have been inseparable ever since.
'From the lobby, I heard Samantha's cackle at the end of the song and instantly thought whoever just made that sound is an immaculate human,' Holf, 31, recalled to the New York Times in a feature about their love story.
After they were both cast in the show, they became closer when rehearsals started and 'never stopped hanging out pretty much every single day after.'
However, Greenstone, 37, noted she was 'living in utter confusion' after realizing her feelings for Hoff were for more than friendship and felt a powerful 'magnetism' towards him.
She even went to an energy healer for advice, who claimed the pair 'share a spiritual umbilical cord.'

Greenstone made the nerve-wracking decision to text Hoff and admit her feelings to him, which he reciprocated but was nervous about.
'I was like, "Oh my goodness. I can't believe she did this,"' Hoff recalled. 'The answer was yes. But then I was scared. I thought, "If I can't make this work physically, it could ruin everything."'
'I am gay,' Hoff explained. 'And as a gay person, you can keep your identity as that even if your relationship doesn't match that.'
Despite identifying as gay, Hoff and Greenstone started dating in 2017 and are in a monogamous relationship.
'It's beyond a visual lustful connection. It's a soulful connection,' Hoff described.
The couple got engaged at the end of 2023.
They tied the knot at the end of November in Boca Raton, Florida, and have defended their relationship from naysayers questioning their why they are together.
'Samantha is the person I am connected to spiritually,' Hoff explained in an Instagram video shared in August.

'She's my soulmate, my partner, person I want to spend the rest of my life with,' he explained.
According to Hoff, the connection between them 'transcends just plain old sexuality.'
'We are attracted to each other, we're intimate, it is just on a different level - it's a soulmate connection,' he said passionately.
'It's when you're 90 years old, looking at your partner, you know, wrinkled, withering away, the tragedy of life consuming you, you still look at them with love and compassion and devotion,' he insisted.
'That's the kind of love that we have in the connection we have.'
To sum it up, Hoff said: 'We're in love and it's that simple.'
