ICE Plans To Spend Up To $20 Million Dollars On Taser Gloves

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to spend up to $20 million to purchase electric shock gloves for law enforcement officers and agents, according to an upcoming contract.

The listing was shared on the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Acquisition Planning Forecast System Monday and shows that ICE has been required to purchase CTG-5 Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter, or G.L.O.V.E., which was described as a “Conductive Distraction and De-escalation Device.”

The equipment functions as regular patrol gloves until officers press a switch that activates an electric current. The current must come into contact with a person’s skin to be effective, according to Compliant Technologies, the glove manufacturer, which told the Associated Press.

“If the officer is getting any type of resistance from the person, this is certainly an effective tool,” the president of the Institute for the Prevention of In-Custody Deaths, John G. Peters, told the AP.

Describing what an illegal alien being detained might feel when the glove is activated, Peters said, “It’s immediate and sharp, and it will distract you. I call it like a bee sting.”

When asked about the upcoming contract, an ICE spokesperson told the Daily Caller, “ICE is constantly assessing the needs of our officers in the field to ensure they have the tools and equipment necessary to safely arrest and remove criminal illegal aliens from our country.”

“Every decision is made with careful consideration and appropriately reviewed to ensure that any technology ICE utilizes is consistent with all applicable law enforcement policies and standards.”

ICE also directed the Caller to the department’s 2023 use-of-force policy and stated that its officers are highly trained in de-escalation tactics and receive regular use-of-force training.

An ICE spokesperson said nearly 70 percent of the agency’s arrests involve “dangerous illegal aliens.” The spokesperson also said assaults against ICE officers have increased 1,300 percent, vehicle attacks have increased 3,300 percent, and death threats have increased 8,000 percent.

“Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, ICE is targeting the worst of the worst,” the spokesperson said, adding that the agency is focused on arresting and deporting criminal illegal aliens, including “murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists.”
