ICE said it wants custody of an illegal immigrant again after he was accused of sexually assaulting a Maine woman while out on bail.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they filed a detainer for rideshare driver Aguid Mahamat, 26, following his alleged Aug. 1 attack on a drunken woman in Lewiston.
Police said the suspect spotted the visibly impaired victim in a parking lot, put her in the backseat of his car and then drove her to a different location to assault her. He was charged with gross sexual assault and jailed at the Androscoggin County Jail.
Court records obtained by the Sun Journal, which first reported on the incident, said ICE originally arrested Mr. Mahamat in June. He was released by the agency on bond in Mississippi the following month.
Mr. Mahamat was taken back into custody less than two weeks after his release from the immigration detention center.
The woman told authorities that she had just vomited in the parking lot from over-drinking when Mr. Mahamat approached her and led her to his car.
The victim said the suspect later got in the rear of the car, removed her pants and sexually assaulted her. She said the man dropped her back off at the original parking lot afterward.
Court filings said Mr. Mahamat could not be interviewed by investigators because he only spoke “Chadian Arabic.”
He also showed police his release paperwork from the ICE facility where he was being held.
