The Indianapolis Colts have won the race to sign veteran NFL wide receiver Keenan Allen.

On Monday, the Colts agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the 34-year-old that is worth up to $8.32 million.

Allen is back in the NFL after he played for the Los Angeles Chargers last season, where he had 81 catches in his 13th season as a pro for 777 yards and four touchdowns, and adds much-needed depth to the Colts' receivers room.

Shane Steichen's options have become depleted in the offseason following Michael Pittman Jr.'s trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Alec Pierce's injury troubles.

They did hand No. 1 receiver Pierce a four-year, $114m extension earlier this offseason but he needed ankle surgery and it remains to be seen when he will be fully cleared to go after missing the entirety of training camp so far.

Allen now joins an offense that also includes Jonathan Taylor, one of the best running backs in the NFL, tight end Tyler Warren and quarterback Daniel Jones.

Allen and Steichen know each other well after the Colts coach spent several seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Chargers during Allen's spell as their top wideout.

The pair have kept in contact and talks about a potential move to Indianapolis have been ongoing for months. Now, with less than a month until their Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13, Allen is in the building.

Allen was selected by the Chargers in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft and he has gone on to be one of the franchise's greatest-ever players.

He spent 11 seasons with the Chargers before he was traded to the Chicago Bears in 2024 amid a contract dispute.

Allen then returned to Los Angeles before last season and instantly became quarterback Justin Herbert's most-targeted receiver with 122.

A six-time Pro Bowl selection, Allen ranks 13th for receptions in NFL history and has just over 12,000 receiving yards with 70 touchdown catches.
