They've been together for 16 years but Carrie Underwood and sports star husband Mike Fisher are not like most celebrity power couples.

While the family united for Carrie's historic performance at Trump's inauguration, the couple have stayed away from the public spotlight in more recent years – with their last joint red carpet appearance being in 2022.

Now insiders have revealed why the pair have chosen to keep their home life more private recently, while many other A-List couples share more with their fans.

'Carrie and Mike are happier than ever right now,' an insider shares with DailyMail.com. 'But they're very protective of their family life and like to keep things private.'

'When it comes to sharing things on social media, Carrie keeps it professional and focused on her career. Of course, she's incredibly proud of her family - and they were there to cheer her on at the Inauguration.

'They used to share more but they've have had a lot of trolling so don't want to put themselves through any unnecessary negativity. There are a lot of haters out there and both Carrie and Mike like to keep things positive.'

'They're enjoying keeping their personal life private and their marriage off social media for the most part,' the insider adds.

Carrie, 41, and 44-year-old Mike's relationship began after they were set up with one another back in 2008 by the songstress' bassist, Mark Childers.

The private couple last hit the red carpet together at the CMA Awards in 2022

At the time, Mike was playing for the Ottawa Senators in Canada, and Carrie was initially reluctant about the set-up. 'I mean, can I make dating more difficult? Let’s get a hockey guy who lives in another country. Awesome,' she said on MTV's Behind The Music in 2022.

The match ended up being a successful one - they became engaged the following year, wed in 2010, and now reside in Tennessee with their sons Isaiah, nine, and Jacob, six.

Mike and son Isaiah were pictured supporting Carrie at Trump's inauguration on Monday, where she performed America The Beautiful a capella following a technical error.

The last time the couple walked the red carpet together was back at the CMA Awards in 2022, however Mike has been present with Carrie at multiple past red carpet events.

At the CMA Awards 2022, Carrie wowed in a plunging blue gown by La Metamorphose as she posed with her handsome husband on her arm.

Despite being public figures, their Instagram accounts reflect their preference for keeping their private lives largely off social media.

Indeed, Carrie's account is primarily used to promote her music career, however she has occasionally given fans glimpses into her family life.

The carousel began with a photo of Carrie proudly brandishing her fresh catch, with photos of Mike - including a sweet couples selfie - tucked into the slideshow.

'Had the BEST day today fly fishing in Montana! Thanks to our epic guide, Jason, for the expertise! What a day! #27,' Carrie captioned the post.

In June, Carrie shared a few snapshots from her family's visit to the Hersheypark Amusement Park in Pennsylvania. 'Had a day off with the fam in PA today, so we popped down to @hersheypark for some rides, fun and food! The boys had SUCH a BLAST!!!' she wrote.

A recent post from January 8, which did not feature her family, also offered a rare glimpse into Carrie's private life - her home garlic crop, which she spent the day preserving.

'Our whole house now smells like garlic, but I'm happy with how it all turned out!' the singer declared.

As for Carrie's husband, Mike has not posted to his Instagram since April 2023, however he didn't shy away from gushing about his wife up until his hiatus from the platform, posting selfies from their various date nights and birthday shout-outs.

The affection was evident in his messages.

When Carrie received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018, she gave her husband a shout-out in her acceptance speech.

'I met an incredible man, Mike, who thinks I’m so much better than I actually am,' she said. 'Thank you for believing in me as a human, as a wife, as a mom, and supporting me through all of this.'

The year prior, when Carrie was overcoming an injury, she praised her husband for helping her during the recovery.

Likewise, Mike shouted from the rooftops when his wife was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2018.

'God has given you one of the best voices, crazy work ethic and platform you’ve never taken for granted,' he posted to Instagram.

'You’ve remained humble in all the success and never craved the attention or fame one bit. Thanks for always being the small town girl from Oklahoma even though you’re one of the biggest stars! Love you lots!'
