As Sydney Sweeney rang in 2025 partying with her friends and fiancé of three years, her life couldn't have been going any better.
Posting to Instagram on January 2, the 27-year-old giddily wrote: 'The last few days of 2024 will forever be some of my favorite.'
The words accompanied a series of snaps showing Sweeney variously jet-skiing, dancing and locked in a passionate kiss with her dashing fiancé, Jonathan Davino, 41.
But they say that just when one bit of your life is going well another one falls apart - and so, sadly, it seems to have proved for Sweeney.
This week it emerged that her marriage plans have been dramatically paused.
Now, an impeccably placed insider tells the Daily Mail, that a 'heartbroken' Sweeney has been forced to accept the relationship is 'all but over.'
As Sydney Sweeney (pictured at the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards) rang in 2025 partying with her friends and fiancé of three years, her life couldn't have been going any better.
The words accompanied a series of pictures showing Sydney jet-skiing, dancing and locked in a passionate kiss with her dashing fiancé, Jonathan Davino, 41.
'Sydney knows she could get a boyfriend in two seconds, but she is not the kind of girl who is looking to date around, go from one man to another,' our source says.
'Sydney will eventually talk all about it but she is stuck with a lot of feelings right now. She is still in love with Jonathan but also sees that the relationship is all but over.'
The 27-year-old actress has even gone so far as to delete that happy photo of her kissing Davino from her Instagram.
'She thought she was getting married and now that isn't happening, she is heartbroken,' the insider says. 'Everyone is telling her that better days are ahead, but she is in the process of not believing it.'
Sweeney has always been notoriously private about her relationship with Davino.
They were first linked in late 2018, just before Sweeney's acting career really took off. She was 21 and businessman Davino was 34.
Save for the occasional sighting of them together at award shows and other Hollywood events, the pair have managed to keep their relationship largely out of the public eye.
The actress gave us a rare glimpse for Cosmopolitan's 'Love Issue' in February 2022, saying, 'I don't date actors or musicians or anyone in entertainment because I can just be normal Syd that way and it's easiest.'
She added: 'I have a great support system. I have people who will battle for me and allow me to be on the pedestal and shine without making me feel like, "Oh no, I'm shining too bright and I need to step back".'
One month later, People magazine confirmed that Sweeney and Davino had got engaged on March 2.
And while her love-life was soaring, so too was Sweeney's career. She went from Euphoria in 2019 to The White Lotus in 2021, earning Emmy nominations for both roles.
She launched her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, in partnership with Davino in 2020, and he worked as a producer on the hit romcom Anyone But You, in which she starred alongside Glen Powell, 36, in 2023.
Speaking exclusively to the Mail our source says, 'Sydney knows she could get a boyfriend in two seconds, but she is not the kind of girl who is looking to date around, go from one man to another. (Pictured: Jonathan Davino and Sydney Sweeney in 2018).

In December of that year, Sweeney discussed the experience of working with Davino on the film, telling Glamour UK: 'It's really great to work with someone who knows you so well, who fully supports your ideas, your vision and your voice. And it's nice. I mean, who doesn't want to be with their best friend all the time?'
Now, with no fewer than six major projects in the pipeline, from Apple TV+ thriller Echo Valley to a screen adaptation of the best-selling book The Housemaid, Sweeney's star remains firmly in the ascendant.
But that wild professional success has turned out to be a double-edged sword as sources tell the Daily Mail it caused cracks to appear in Sweeney's once harmonious relationship.
Another insider says: 'Her personal and professional life were at an all-time high, she was happy, and she was excited to get married. Then it all fell apart as they both had different goals on starting a family, when to do it and when they would spend time as a family.
As her workload increased, and she ran around the globe from shoot to shoot, there was simply less time with Davino, and the romance faltered.
The source adds: 'Her career has become more demanding, and she is now very busy, the way she wants to be for work, but now all of that takes away from securing the relationship they had.'
Sweeney and Davino have not been seen together since January, and she has reportedly been staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel since mid-February.
In a clear attempt to distract herself from her relationship turmoil, the film star has been on a trip with her friends.

She recently posted a series of glamorous shots of her posing in bikinis and mini dresses, gaining millions of likes for the images from which her engagement rock was glaringly absent from her ring finger.
But, while she's determined to put on a brave face for fans - keeping busy with work and friends - sources tell the Daily Mail that the star is struggling.
According to one: 'They both thought it could work, and it just hasn't, and that is what formed the rift.
'It is now going to take some time for her to get back to the Sydney she once was.'
