Naughty Dog’s next project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, is apparently still years away from release, according to a new post from Jason Schreier.

Ever since it was announced back at The Game Awards in December 2024, Intergalactic has been one of the most anticipated titles around. Made by the same team that brought us both The Last of Us and Uncharted, it focuses on a bounty hunter stranded on a remote planet in an alternate sci-fi universe.

Given that work on the project began in 2020 and it’s the developer’s first game since The Last of Us Part II dropped on PS4 that same year, many have been hoping that launch isn’t too far away. However, fans may have to cool their expectations.

Intergalactic won’t launch until at least 2027

According to Bloomberg journalist and industry expert Jason Schreier in a Reset Era forum, Intergalactic will almost definitely not be arriving in 2025 or 2026, indicating that we won’t get our hands on the game until 2027 at the earliest.

Responding to a fan speculating about both the Naughty Dog project and The Witcher 4 and how far along they are in development, he said:

“I’m pretty sure I said they were both going to be very early teases. Neither of those games will be out next year.”

This is a crushing blow for those eagerly awaiting the space epic. The first trailer for Intergalactic didn’t show any actual gameplay footage, which strongly suggested that there would still be a long wait for launch. 2025 seemed unlikely, but there was hope that 2026 might be a realistic window.

Based on this update from Schreier, though, it appears that there are still a couple of years to wait, not accounting for any delays.

If a 2027 launch does come true, this would also mean that it will likely be the only new Naughty Dog game of the PlayStation 5 generation, or potentially even a PlayStation 6 launch title. On the bright side, at least we have The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO to tide us over.
