Social media erupted in ridicule of an Iowa pollster whose results just days before the 2024 presidential election showed Donald Trump losing the deep red state.

Trump went on to easily win the Hawkeye State on Tuesday with a 12.6 percent lead over Vice President Kamala Harris after more than 80 percent of the vote was tabulated, according to the Associated Press.

'Wow that Iowa poll was really accurate!' Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) sarcastically wrote on X after the state was called for Trump.

Ann Selzer has built a reputation as 'Iowa's Polling Queen' and the 'best pollster in politics' over decades of conducting the Des Moines Register political surveys.

Sen. Marco Rubio tore into the Des Moines Register poll that came out days before the presidential election and showed Trump losing to Vice President Kamala Harris

But sports media host Jake Crain wrote: 'I'm not overtly political but the people who put out the Iowa poll should never be taken seriously again.'

The presidential poll released the weekend before the 2024 election showed Harris ahead of Trump by three percentage points. Although the results were within the margin of error, it gave Harris supporters hope that she could flip the state they had previously written off.

The Register survey sent shockwaves through the market – triggering a flood of wagers on Harris to win the U.S. election. On the other hand, Trump's odds tanked on an array of betting and prediction markets, including Kalshi, Polymarket and Predictit, just days before the November 5 Election Day.

But as in 2016 and 2020, Iowa again voted for Trump's ascension to the White House this cycle – and the state's six Electoral College votes will go to the former president.

'Remember that Iowa poll that came out yesterday? That was a fun 20 minutes,' Michael Ian Black wrote on X.

And political scientist Ian Bremmer wrote: 'wow that Iowa poll was crazy wrong.'

Trump Campaign Deputy Political Director Alex Latcham released a statement on the Iowa victory that took aim at Selzer's results and suggested she will be out of a job.

'Congratulations to Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance on their victory,' Latcham wrote. 'After four years under Kamala Harris, Hawkeye state voters are eager for President Trump to fix what Kamala Harris broke.'

'Starting on Day 1, President Trump and Vice President JD Vance will help to ease costs, secure the border, and protect Social Security for retirees like Ann Selzer.'

Selzer's credibility in Iowa polling was already brought into question before the results on Tuesday night – but Trump's commanding victory just helped bolster the flak against her.

Trump tore into the survey, calling Selzer a 'Trump hater' and insisting that Iowa's farmers 'love' him.

'All polls, except for one heavily skewed toward the Democrats by a Trump hater who called it totally wrong the last time, have me up, BY A LOT,' he scathed on his social media website Truth Social.

Iowa hasn't voted for a Democrat in the presidential election since Barack Obama in 2012.
